How to Pick Your Perfect Wedding Colour Scheme
Choosing a wedding theme that is right for you takes time, consideration and a bit of planning. The first step in creating a beautiful theme is understanding how to pick your wedding colors.
The color scheme for your wedding day will reflect the venue, the season, the decorations and most importantly your personal style. But knowing how to choose the right colors that match perfectly together and create a successful wedding color palette can be an overwhelming task.
Your colors will set the mood for the day and reflect how you want your wedding to feel, so you want to make sure that they are right for you! In this post, I want to help you learn about wedding color schemes and how to make it easy to choose the perfect colors for your big day.
I would advise that you pick your color and theme as early as possible, so it can inform the other decisions you make when you start your planning. When you have your chosen color palette, you will find it easier when it comes to choosing dresses, decorations for the venue, stationery and all other accessories for the wedding day.
Before you start planning your wedding color scheme, do some research. Have a look at what options are available for wedding stationery, or bridesmaids dresses, or flower arrangements. This will give you some sort of idea of the color combinations available out there so you know what you will have to work with when you pick your palette.
Here are a few of the main things to consider when picking your color scheme…
the season
The time of year that you are getting married can be a big influence in choosing your color palette. So if your wedding is in the fall, think about the warm and vibrant color of the natural world and use this as an inspiration. Some of the colors most strongly associated with fall are terracotta, blood orange, olive green, dusty pink, warm beige and mustard yellow.
If you are having a winter wedding, your color palette would be more suited to silvery greys, indigo blue, forest green and metallic touches. In the spring, colors would be a gorgeous pastel shade with mint green, coral, dusty blue and icy white. And for the summer, you can be bright and bold with colors such as orange, pineapple yellow, poppy red, pale pink and tropical green.
THE VENUE
Another important consideration in choosing your colors is to think about your venue, and what would work well in that space. You want to choose colors that will be complimentary to the environment.
If your wedding is outdoors then chose colors that accentuate the surroundings and don’t clash with it by choosing earthy tones with color pops. If you have a venue that is ornate or traditional, you will want your colors to be sensitive to this by choosing neutrals and pastels. Make sure the tones that you choose enhance the aesthetics that already exist within the venue.
THE MOOD
What sort of wedding day do you want to have? Let the mood of the day inspire your color choice. If you know that you want your wedding day to be very classic and traditional, then your colors should be representative of that. Or, if you want to have a festival style party wedding, you can think outside the box and use bright bold colors to showcase the fun!
Before you finalize your wedding color scheme choice, make sure you have considered these points:
Choose a balanced amount of colors
You don’t want to have too many colors going on, so choose between 4-7 colors that all go well togetherAsk your partner, friends and family
It’s really helpful to get advice from your loved ones, they will see the colors in a different way to you and have thoughts to share.Pick a color family
