How to Get Inspired (As a Small Creative Business Owner)

Running a small business and having to be creative on demand can be really difficult sometimes. Especially when you are so busy with the day-to-day running of your business. It can be really easy to lose your inspiration and motivation to be creative.

To feed your creative spirit and stay inspired, you have to be in a good headspace. So, there are a few methods I use when I need to change my mindset and encourage creativity. Here are a few ways that, as a small business owner, you can reignite your energy to boost your creativity.

  1. WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL

Your journal can be your very own creative playground where your imagination can run wild. There is no set structure or method to how you use your journal, which makes it such a good way of connecting with your thoughts and ideas.

Because your journal is for your eyes only, there is no pressure on what you write or draw in there. You have complete freedom of thought and expression.

Journaling on a daily basis really helps you tap into an abundant mindset. By emptying everything that is in your mind onto paper, you are making room for new ideas to flow in.

2. BE AROUND LOVED ONES

Although spending time alone can be really beneficial for creativity and inspiration, spending quality time with family and friends can be just as important. Being around your loved ones increases your happiness. In fact, studies have proven that the amount of time spent with family and friends goes a long way towards boosting happiness – even more so than an increased income!

Being in a happy and loving environment can help stimulate the mind and boost your creativity. It also detaches you from being closed-minded and opens you up to other opinions, views and outlooks which can give you lots of new creative ideas.

3. GO TO A BOOKSTORE

Books are an amazing way to widen your knowledge and discover new ideas. What better way than to surround yourself in a place where you have access to every book on every subject you can possibly dream of?

By going into a bookstore with a completely open mind, you are giving yourself access to infinite inspiration. Not to mention that it’s a delight to the senses. You read, smell, and touch all at the same time, making it such a happy experience. Don’t you just love the smell of books? To step into a bookstore is both a calming and inspiring experience, your brain will definitely thank you for it.

4. SPEND TIME IN NATURE

Spending time in nature is proven to have a positive effect on both your mental and physical wellbeing. It is linked to improvements in your mood, your mental health and your emotional wellbeing.

If you are just sitting at your desk or in your studio feeling uninspired or stuck in a creative rut, take a walk outside. You will immediately feel the benefits from it. Whether it is a breath of fresh air or a long walk through the wilderness, spending time in nature is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. It helps you to slow down, reduces stress, and allows your brain to refresh.

Remember, inspiration can come from anywhere at any time, so be open to it. Also don’t put pressure on yourself if you are not feeling creative or feeling inspired, take a step away from what you are doing and do something different. Part of the problem with struggling for inspiration can be balancing your work-life balance, so make sure you prioritize time for yourself. Your creative spirit will thank you for it, I promise you!
