How to Create a DIY Gift Box for Your Bridesmaids

Choosing your bridesmaids is a really exciting part of your wedding planning. They will be such a big part of your months of preparation, including your bachelorette party, dress shopping and helping with all the planning. Then, on your big day, they will be there with you through the whole thing.

Here’s a really fun idea to show your bridesmaids how much it will mean to you to share your special day with them: create a DIY “will you be my bridesmaid” gift box!

If you are crafty and want to create something really unique and meaningful for your bridesmaids, this is a great idea! They are such a good token of appreciation for your friendship.

You’ll feel good that you put them all together yourself and you’ll feel even better after you celebrate with a champagne toast with your new bridal party!

To make it easy for you, I’ve created a quick guide on how to create a bridesmaids gift box!

STEP 1: Choose a Gift Box

Choose the gift boxes or gift bags you want to use. A few options that you can use are a brown kraft cardboard box, a wooden box, a packaging box, a pretty paper bag, or even a tote canvas bag. It’s completely up to you, so think about what you are going to put in the gift box and how you can make it special for your bridesmaids.

There are lots of options online that you can choose from and easily customize, so do your research and find what suits you best.

STEP 2: Fill Your Gift Box with Goodies

What are you going to put in your gift box!? Think about what your bridesmaids like and what will be memorable for them! There are lots of different options and you can be thoughtful as you like. Maybe everything in the box is personalized or maybe every bridesmaid has the same thing. How much budget are you willing to spend? Consider the cost of the gift items, packaging, and delivery fees if you are posting the boxes.

Some creative ideas are:

  • Candles in all different scents for your different girls

  • Personalized bridesmaids jewelry

  • Beauty products like lip balms, hand creams, face masks & nail varnishes

  • Really unique and special custom gifts (check out my personalized coasters for inspiration!)

  • Accessories with your bridesmaid’s names on - such as eye masks, makeup bags or purses

Don’t forget the most important part of your gift box, a note or letter to propose your question to your bridesmaids! You want to ask them “will you be my bridesmaid?” So you can either create a beautiful note by hand or use an online service to have one printed. STEP 3: Accessorize and Decorate!

How to Create a DIY Gift Box for Your Bridesmaids

The most fun part of building your DIY gift box - get decorating. Depending on the style of gift box you go for, you can be creative and stick with your theme.

Think tissue paper, floral petals and ribbon. You want your gift box to have that wow factor! Don’t forget to write the name of your bridesmaid somewhere on the box or bag, so you know which box is which.

Arrange all of your hand picked items on a bed of shredded crinkle paper in the box for a rustic effect. Or wrap everything in satin colored ribbon for a luxury style.

Now you have created your gift boxes, it’s time to share the surprise with your bridesmaids!

Generally, you will want to send your bridesmaid proposals between eight months to one year before your wedding day. Send them even further in advance if it’s a destination wedding.
